Law Clerkship Opportunities
 
The Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program (ADAP) seeks law students to clerk during the academic year and summer. 
 
ADAP law clerks develop an understanding of the issues facing persons with disabilities, especially those in under-served and under-resourced communities, and gain exposure to the variety of advocacy methods that may be used to resolve them. Under the mentorship and supervision of ADAP legal staff, clerks:

 
·         Research novel areas of disability law and write legal and policy memoranda;
·         Contribute to analysis and development of disability policy;
·         Work directly with clients, participating in individual case advocacy; and
·         Gain exposure to impact litigation and/or policy analysis.
 
Summer clerkship positions are typically full-time and a minimum of 8 weeks. Fall and spring positions require a minimum commitment of 8-10 hours a week.
 
Qualifications
 
ADAP seeks clerks who have exemplary research, writing, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of adults and children with disabilities and/or public interest law is preferred.  
 
How to Apply
 
Interested applicants should e-mail a cover letter, resume, and writing sample to ADAP’s Legal Director, Rhonda Brownstein, at rbrownstein@adap.ua.edu and indicate the period (fall semester, spring semester, or summer) for which they seek a position.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants are encouraged to submit application materials by February 1 for a summer clerkship, July 1 for a fall clerkship, and October 1 for a spring clerkship.
